Dr. Dashti intentionally customizes her approach to clients' cases. Though she is trained primarily as a behavioralist, she integrates aspects of psychoanalysis, reality therapy, and cognitive therapy in her work.

Being the mother of three children, with over forty years of practice, and having been presented with a variety of issues from all over the world, Dr. Dashti has been put in a unique situation as a therapist. She speaks the language of people with a variety of cultural backgrounds and across generations.

From 1975-1978 she served as Director of Special Education for Iran in the Ministry of Social Welfare. Her program won worldwide recognition and was replicated throughout Iran. She moved back to the US to obtain her PhD in 1978. She completed two years of internship in behavior modification techniques with children with ADHD at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles under Dr. James F. Magary. In the 1980s, she started a practice in Los Angeles for adults.
In 1991, Dr. Dashti moved back to Iran where she was Head of Child Psychiatry in Emam Hossein Hospital for a year. She then transitioned to private practice in Tehran where she had more than 2000 clients over 28 years. During this time she also worked for eight years in the Butane Company. With over thousands of employees, the organization hired Dr. Dashti as a support for employees with therapy and by conducting the department heads with in services on how to manage employees to encourage employee mental health. In addition to supporting many employees through major life transitions, one of her accomplishments was ensuring all employees had access to a range of wellness resources and facilities.
Continuing a vibrant, transnational private practice with clients living and migrating between Canada, US, Europe, Dubai, and Iran, Dr. Dashti now lives in Berkeley. She enjoys making lavashak with her grandchildren Kea, Darya, and Kayhan, practicing Spanish, urban and wilderness explorations with her family, and frequenting local cafes and bakeries where she works on translation and writing projects!

Dr. Dashti is also a writer and translator. She has published memoir, family history, and translations of literary analysis. Her works include Stranger in Paradise (memoir, 2000), A Voyage Through Divan-e Shams: Celebrating Rumi (translation, 2003), The Realm of Sa'di (translation, 2013), You Belong (history, 2016), Fetneh (translation, 2019), Jadoo (translation, in press).
